Presentations

I've been working on some more tests and we presented our work this week.

It went really well; it was quite informal really so it was easy to talk to the class about where I'm at so far.

I've also had a chat with Danny about a couple of things - how to bring in vector images from Illustrator and turn them into Shape layers that can be manipulated.
He also helped me solve a problem with my rotating earth - using a really simple technique of creating another sphere with a mask applied to it, unveiling my globe.

I'm happy about my progress but really nervous about my workload. Four modules is a lot to keep on top of.

Storyboard and Test

This week I wanted to get cracking with the brief. I'd not had time over the weekend as I had work and my birthday to celebrate.

I managed to complete my storyboard:

I wanted to keep the style sleek as I've never made a piece like that before. I know it might be quite a similar style to the video already made for Talenthouse but I want to try brand new things for my personal use and skill development.

I also wanted to try out the 'rotating cube' idea on page 7. I saw a tutorial to make such a thing online and I liked it so I wanted to incorporate it. Here's what I ended up with in the test:

After Effects Basics and Using Curves

We've looked at adding effects, the use of layers/pre-comps and some keyboard shortcuts, this was helpful for me as I didn't know about some of the keyboard shortcuts. It made working in After Effects a lot easier; particularly for my major project.

We also looked at using curves; easing animation. We practiced with it through making a ball bounce. I found it a little tricky to get my head around but I'm sure I'll get used to it soon with more practice.

Introduction

For this module we're going to be creating an animation for a company called Talent House.
We are to find a way of speaking to the creative audience about what Talent House does.

I like that we're entering into a competition to do this; more brilliant experience and motivation to do well.

During class I felt a little overwhelmed and no idea really sprung to mind. However since coming home I've thought of a few small ideas that I can mull over and work on. I feel better that I've let my mind naturally find something to work with.

I'm really looking forward to developing some new valuable skills in motion graphics and applying them to future work will be really exciting.
